Oppositional defiant disorder vs conduct disorder

Childhood-onset disruptive behaviors: ODD is argumentative/defiant without serious rule violations; CD adds serious violations of others' rights.

How it presents

ODD: angry/irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behavior, vindictiveness ≥6 months. CD: aggression to people/animals, destruction of property, deceitfulness/theft, serious rule violations

  • Intermittent explosive disorder
  • Bipolar disorder

Treatment reasoning

Parent management training (PMT) / parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), functional family therapy, multisystemic therapy (MST) for severe CD.
